Given current (and forecasted) weather conditions and several other considerations the following are changes to this weekend’s schedule of services:

Tonight’s Vesper service is canceled. 

Liturgy will still be celebrated tomorrow, beginning at 9am, but there will be no blessing of water.

Great Vespers will be celebrated Saturday evening at 5:30.

Liturgy will be celebrated Sunday, beginning at 9:30a, followed by the Great Blessing of Water. We will break our fast and celebrate the Feast during ‘coffee hour’. We will not be going out to bless Long Island Sound.

Because of on-going weather conditions, this evening's Vesper service has been canceled. Sunday's Liturgy will be celebrated as scheduled.

Beginning June 15th (beginning at 7p), running weekly throughout the summer, we will be holding an adult study of the Sacraments, and the Sacramental Life of the Church. There will so be a 'followup' study offered on the following Tuesday morning (beginning at 9a). Please join us.

The Orthodox year has a rhythm, much like the tide coming in and going out – only this rhythm is an undulation between seasons of fasting and seasons (or a few days) of feasting. Every week, with few exceptions, is marked by the Wednesday and Friday fast, and every celebration of the Divine Liturgy is prepared for by eating nothing after midnight until we have received the Holy Sacrament.

On Sunday, May 28th, our Catechumens were received into the Orthodox Church.

His Eminence, Archbishop Nikon, visited the parish on the weekend of May 13th & 14th.

On Monday, February 27, 2017, the Archpastoral Message of His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon for the beginning of Great Lent was released.

Because of impending, worsening weather conditions, the church will be closed today.

May 7th marks the repose of St Alexis Toth the confessor and defender of Orthodoxy in America.

This Saturday, we will be commemorating our patron saint by serving the Akathist (Standing Prayer) to St. Alex begin at 5pm. We will then celebrate the service of Great Vespers with Litya beginning at 5:30pm.

At 5 pm today, Saturday, November 14th, the service for the "Repose of Those Who have Fallen Asleep in the Lord" will be observed in memory of those who were killed in the terrorist attackes in Paris.

This Nativity Season, the Parish of St. Alexis is participating in the Warm the Children project (among other things).

Warm The Children is a co-operative effort of a newspaper and the communities it serves, acting alone or in partnership with a local charity, which provides new winter clothing for the children of needy families. Here’s how it works. Beginning in the fall each year a newspaper asks its readers, with articles in the news columns and “house ads,” for monetary donations to the newspaper’s Warm The Children Fund. The money that comes in is deposited in a local Warm The Children bank account, and is used exclusively to buy new winter clothing for needy children in the newspaper’s community. None of the money is ever used for “administrative fees.”

“The Earth is the Lord’s: Caring for God’s Creation”—a five-session study guide originally published by the Orthodox Church in America in 1995—has been reissued and is now available in PDF format for downloading.

With Church Schools beginning during the month of September, the study guide makes an ideal “beginning of the school year” resource that not only addresses stewardship of creation, but highlights the annual September 1 “Day of Prayer for Creation” observed among Orthodox Christians world-wide since the late 1980s. 

“On September 1, 1989, the late Ecumenical Patriarch Demetrios I issued the first message from the Ecumenical Throne on the environment,” writes His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon in a letter being sent to all OCA parishes at the end of August 2015, in which he urges use of the study guide. “With his proclamation and the establishment of September 1, the first day of the Ecclesiastical New Year, as the Day of Prayer for the Creation, the Church again seeks to remind us, as Mary reminded Martha, of the one needful thing—life and unity with Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ. In that statement, Patriarch Demetrios I reminds us that the holy fathers of the Church teach that ‘man is the prince of creation, endowed with the privilege of freedom. Being partaker simultaneously of the material and the spiritual world, he was created in order to refer creation back to the Creator, in order that the world may be saved from decay and death.’”

Metropolitan Tikhon continues by stating that “in Saint Ephrem the Syrian’s work, ‘Hymns on Paradise,’ we are given yet another guide to how we might come into that unity and life in Christ. Saint Ephrem tells us that God’s two witnesses, or pointers, are, ‘nature, through man’s use of it, [and] Scripture, through his reading it.’

“As the summer draws to a close and children go back to or away to school for the first time and begin again a new academic year and ecclesiastical year, let us, being reminded by the pointers to Christ as mentioned by Saint Ephrem, take a moment to turn to the one needful thing in praise, worship and thanksgiving for the creation and all the blessings bestowed upon us by our merciful Creator,” Metropolitan Tikhon concludes. “It is my prayer that the parishes, Sunday Schools, Youth Groups and other organizations of the Orthodox Church in America will take up this time around September 1 to celebrate the Day of Prayer for the Creation.”

Community Thanksgiving Service for Sunday, November 23, 7:00 p.m., at the Clinton Congregational Church.

The is an ecumenical service of the Faith congregations of Clinton. Contributions and donations of canned goods go to the Shoreline Soup Kitchen and Pantries.

Each year, the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America designates the Sunday before U.S. Thanksgiving Day as “IOCC Sunday.” This year’s commemoration falls on Sunday, November 23.

Bible Study resumes Wednesday, November 12th. We continue with our study of the Old Testament Lessons from Great and Holy Saturday.

Summer 2015 Home Building Dates Are Up!

Volunteer Registration Join Us This Summer 2015! Registration is Open! Thank you for your interest in participating in a Home Building Work Trip! We host three types of home building groups each summer: small groups, double groups, and Orthodox Basic Training (OBT) groups. During our small group and double group weeks, teams from one or more parishes construct a single home (single group) or two homes (double group) for needy families, spend the afternoons interacting with the boys of St. Innocent's, and experience the local culture with a trip into Rosarito. During OBT weeks, we host larger groups who construct between four to seven homes in one week, we have speakers each evening who present on a variety of topics, and on Sunday we have a day of fellowship and fun at St. Innocent’s.

Changing the World: Transformation Through Missions Fr. Nicholas & Pres. Merilynn Andruchow

Father Nicholas Andruchow, Associate Director of Project Mexico and St. Innocent Orphanage, will present his work with families in the developing world in a series of talks October 27-31 at Hellenic College Holy Cross (HCHC), Brookline, MA.

Weather permitting, we will be blessing Long Island Sound from Clinton Beach on Sunday, January 12th at around 12p.

On February 2nd, SouperBowl Sunday, we will be hosting our annual Chili-Chowder Challenge. Make and bring your favorite chili or chowder and vote for your favorite by voting with a contribution! Proceeds go to the International Orthodox Christian Charities.

We are also collecting canned foods for the Shoreline Soup Kitchen.

Statement on war in Ukraine
Dearly beloved children in the Lord,

In light of the distressing developments in Ukraine affecting millions of innocent people in the region, I wholeheartedly urge you to pray for peace and the well-being of our brothers and sisters who are enduring this tragic moment.

I ask that the hostilities be ceased immediately and that President Putin put an end to the military operations. As Orthodox Christians, we condemn violence and aggression.

I offer my support and prayers to my brother and concelebrant, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy, who has the most difficult task of leading his beloved flock in this time of pain and anxiety. I also assure my prayers to the other religious leaders serving in Ukraine who have the delicate task of leading their communities in these difficult times.

To our beloved Ukrainian brothers and sisters, as well to all of you who are certainly troubled and concerned about these recent developments, I offer the words that the Lord Himself offers to us through His Psalmist: “The Lord will give strength to His people; The Lord will bless His people with peace (Ps 29:11).”

May we fervently offer our petition to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to have mercy on us “for the peace of the whole world, for the welfare of the holy churches of God, and for the union of all.”
